Have you been wanting to learn how to kayak? Are you looking for new skills? Do you want to gain confidence to tackle entry level whitewater in your own boat? If so this is the right weekend for you. This retreat will serve as an introduction to the exciting sport of whitewater kayaking. Friday’s reception will provide a discussion and overview of equipment and technique. Saturday we will spend time practicing skills, and then float a local stream. Participants will need to provide their own whitewater boat, skirt and paddle. Dwight Mission will provide the personal flotation device, helmet and transportation to local stream. Boat rentals are available from several sources

Guide Richie Withycombe is our Operations Director and has joined us with a wealth of outdoor guiding experience. Richie graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in Recreation. During his time in college he worked as a whitewater raft guide on the Salmon and Snake Rivers. Having guided many trips in all different types of river crafts he feels at home on the water. Richie also provides excellent coaching in adventure sports, having worked as a professional ski and snowboard instructor for the past 9 seasons. He has the experience to be an effective teacher and coach to help people learn new skills. Richie is passionate about outdoor adventure and loves helping other encounter God's creation in fun and exciting ways.
